The Mechanical Product Engineer will be responsible for engineering, developing, and refining proposed product solutions through the application of engineering principles, skills and methodologies. The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:
Project management experience
Product engineering and design experience
Quality systems knowledge
Experience in budget management
Skilled user of CAD systems and related design computer software in the development of manufactured products (5 years minimum experience)
Experience developing office furniture products a plus
Manufacturing process knowledge related to injection molding, extrusion, stamping, tube-bending, die casting, welding, wood products design and construction, upholstery, and related finishing processes a plus
Thorough understanding of processes used in determination of static and dynamic load requirements and their application to material selection and specification
Competence with standard business systems software
Office systems software – word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, project management, (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
SolidWorks experience a plus
Collaborate in the product development process.
Ensuring the feasibility of propose new product designs, and redesigns of existing products relative to constraints of cost, schedule, function, aesthetics, fit, finish and manufacturing capability.
Development of internal engineering proposals recognizing all relevant internal and supplier process limitations, capabilities, and requirements.
Analysis of supplier-provided engineering proposals, process requirements, and related technical data pertaining to the product design.
Collaboration in development of requirements-driven specifications for material, secondary processing, fit, finish, and performance of all product components.
Utilizing 3-D CAD in the development of engineered product solutions and associated production tools from concept through manufacturing release.
Development and maintenance of an engineering database (specifications, drawings, digital 3D models, manufacturing procedures, and assembly instructions) for all new and existing products.
Management of the Bill of Materials (BOM) process and routings.
Creation of accurate and scaled carton and label graphics that consistently meet current company and industry standards.
Developing and maintain procedures and standards for testing, repair and maintenance of all products and packaging.
Development of product packaging solutions that recognize the demands and requirements imposed by all forms of shipping employed by Safco, and ensure products arrive to the customer undamaged.
Working with cross-functional teams to help troubleshoot product design issues or defects by providing recommendations and alternative approaches to the overall design, engineering, manufacturing, packaging of the product.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Five years related experience
Electrical Engineering experience a plus
Materials Engineering experience a plus
